The N.O.I. (Napoli Open Innovation) association organizes several meetings in Naples on the theme of Open Innovation. Alexander M. Orlando, undisputed world authority on Open Innovation as well as CEO Innocrowding and Honorary President of the N.O.I. association of which Amedeo Lepore and Costatino Formica are respectively President and Vice President, will be present.
“Serendipity is the key to Open Innovation. NOI was born from a common interest among people who believe that creativity in every field can be amplified through social networks. There are many potential innovators who can put innovative solutions into circulation at the service of companies and PAs. This is Open Innovation“, Antonio Prigiobbo (Head of visual identity at Innocrowding) explains that the birth of NOI, the association that promotes Open Innovation in Naples, is also the product of serendipity. “We found ourselves creatives, economists, technologists, humanists because we believe that the free circulation of ideas produces change, innovation. And now we are promoting a series of thematic meetings to raise awareness and spread Open Innovation as a technique for the development of innovative ideas and as a philosophy for a new way of doing business”.

The advantages of Open Innovation for small and medium-sized enterprises
Open Innovation is a term promoted by Henry Chesbrough, professor and executive director of the Center for Open Innovation at Berkeley. The central idea of this concept is that, in a world like the current one where knowledge is widely disseminated and distributed, companies cannot think of relying only on their own research centers and internal human resources, but should instead buy or license innovations (for example with patents) through exchanges with other companies. In addition, inventions developed internally but not used in one’s own business should be given externally (through licensing agreements, joint ventures, spin-offs).
A model, therefore, that has found some large companies very sensitive to the promotion of Open Innovation – such as Procter & Gamble, IBM, Yet2.com, Decision Lens, The Cambrian House – but which is affecting and investing, operationally, a growing number of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, also in Italy.
There are Open Innovation models and services on the market oriented towards the delivery of solutions or projects, intended to guarantee the economic return of this approach. In recent years there has been a significant development of technology and society that has greatly facilitated the dissemination of information, thanks, in particular, to communication systems and the internet. In this context, the Open Innovation model suggests that, when companies cannot block these flows of information, they must understand how to use all this to their advantage.
One of the most widespread approaches of Open Innovation is proposed as a tool for dialogue and sharing, a network of technological innovation that involves the end customer in the development of services and products aimed at individuals and companies before their introduction on the market.
